Immortal (Intuitive) Thinking & Leading
By Adriaan Groenewald
We find ourselves in uniquely transformative times, distinct from those of 30, 10, or even 3 years ago. Therefore, I share this distinct and highly relevant message…
Due to the rapid and profound changes we’ve witnessed and are experiencing, we must adopt a fundamentally different approach to life and leadership.
In these unprecedented times, leaders – perhaps all of us – are called upon to perform what might seem miraculous—to achieve what’s perceived as impossible—by relentlessly pursuing ongoing improvement and excellence. Regardless of the external circumstances—be it a pandemic, war, unrest, political turmoil, corruption, digital revolution, AI or generational gaps—the expectation remains unchanged: to improve and excel. Where does this path of continuous enhancement, regardless of opposition or resistance, ultimately lead? Perhaps to perfection, to permanent success, to something akin to immortality?
Every entrepreneur, CEO, or political leader aspires to establish organisation’s that endure across generations. This underscores our innate desire for immortality—not merely for our creations to fade away or “die,” but also for ourselves. If this is the path we follow, driven by our intrinsic nature, it calls for thinking and leading commensurate with this quest. Let’s call it “Immortal” (Intuitive) Thinking and Leading.
The depth of our thinking about everything and everyone dictates our behaviour, how we live our lives, how we treat others, how we navigate difficult challenges, and how we lead.
For instance, a bold vision represents a higher level of achievement. The more we believe in and contemplate that vision and its realisation, the more it elevates our behaviour, shapes our plans, guides our interactions, and influences everything we think and do, even though it is intangible, not visible to the natural eye.
If we fail to elevate our thinking and leading to an entirely new level, we’ll continue to wander aimlessly on a superficial plane that doesn’t align with the challenges and expectations that leaders face. We’ll continue producing leaders ill-equipped for the present, let alone the future that threatens to be dominated by AI. We must transcend the superficial messages like “Six Leadership Principles that will…” or “10 Fundamentals of Leadership…” and delve into something more profound and meaningful.
I’m about to introduce you to the deepest and highest level of thinking that can lead you to the zenith of leadership because our thinking profoundly influences how we lead.
The Grand Perspective of Life, in Stages:
For the next few minutes, let’s elevate our thinking into the realm of the immortal (intuitive) and then transition to immortal leadership.
We traverse life through stages: from infancy to childhood, adolescence, young adulthood, full adulthood, retirement, and much more in between.
On this journey, we all strive for improvement, growth, progress, fulfilment, and achieving our higher potential—often defined as qualifications, promotions, business success, family expansion, wealth accumulation, and more. Could it be that all the experiences, the highs and lows, the successes and failures, and our constant learning are preparing us for something far greater than we can presently imagine?
Indeed, they are. I believe that the purpose of these life stages is to prepare us for the overarching, third, and ultimate stage: “immortality.” This is preceded by two stages of pre-mortal existence, followed by birth into mortality and then onward to death, leading us toward immortality—potentially even at higher levels. Even in immortality, there may be more stages or levels.
So, our unending quest for improvement leads us here. It’s an innate instinct that extends beyond this life alone. How will the perspective of immortality impact your time management, your actions, your view of and treatment of others, how you manage challenges, and your leadership?
Let’s start with the end in mind, on an intuitive level. When you consciously attain immortality, especially at the highest level, what might it look like, and how will this state influence your leadership, both now and then? As an immortal being, you will:
- Know no boundaries, naturally achieving what seemed impossible in mortal terms because immortality is synonymous with miracles and impossibilities from a mortal perspective.
- Be liberated from the constraints of a temporary or limited body.
- Transcend the conventional concept of time as we know it.
- Recall and perceive flawlessly, from your pre-mortal existence to every moment spent on Earth, past, present, and future laid out before your eyes.
- Possess the complete capacity of your mind on all dimensions, with every thought, motive, and action vividly remembered.
- Experience inner peace and master self-control, driven by pure motives.
- Embrace perfect happiness, fulfilment, and joy as a way of being.
- Attain a “perfect” perspective on what truly matters.
- Live by knowledge rather than faith as we know it.
- And much more…
Now, if you liken immortality to becoming a superhero, there’s an element of truth in that comparison. There’s a reason we’re all fascinated by superheroes.
Fundamentals for Profound Thinking:
To harness the power of this deep level of thinking and elevate your leadership accordingly, it doesn’t happen overnight. Here are at least 15 fundamentals, principles, and concepts that you must accept, believe, learn, understand, remember, and embody:
- Embrace a higher level of thinking that transcends science and physical perception. Enter the domain of faith, not necessarily confined to religion. Faith involves believing in something as true, even without empirical evidence, and then acting upon that belief.
- Become a truth-seeker, not solely through empirical evidence but also through faith. Pose challenging questions and seek answers that might lack scientific validation.
- Acknowledge the seamless connection between mortality, our journey of continuous improvement, pre-mortality, and immortality. We’re not here by chance; it’s part of a grand design.
- Explore the link between pre-mortal, mortal, and immortal stages of our eternal journey, without judgment or hubris. Why do some people appear to be born with exceptional leadership abilities, musical talents from young, and more? What might they have accomplished in their pre-mortal existence to better equip them for an expression of these abilities on Earth?
- Recognise that you’re currently in a state of mortality and must navigate this phase consciously to progress further.
- Embrace the concept of life after death and accept in faith that there’s a more extensive plan at play. Transitioning from this life to the next will be far more seamless than we imagine.
- Understand that your body, which currently experiences illness, aging, bleeding, and death, will miraculously—seen from a mortal perspective—transform into an imperishable form.
- Accept in faith that this life is a period of testing, preparation, and growth toward an immortal existence hereafter. The more consciously you approach immortality while in mortality, the more fulfilling and rewarding the journey here and hereafter will be.
- Be courageous enough to heed and explore your deepest impressions and instincts about your true identity and eternal potential.
- Realise that the highest form of immortality involves continual multiplication, expansion, and growth, as well as unceasing improvement and, most importantly, creation. What matters most is not the earthly wealth or empire you build but the capacity to create, to generate momentum and progress.
- Consciously study, reflect, and practice to think like an immortal while in your limited mortal state—an evolving society should propel you toward this mindset.
- Steer clear of the mortal trap of defining success based on limited, temporary perspectives, as it diverts you from your ultimate destiny. It’s not about position, possessions, prestige, popularity, performance, profits and power as viewed by most. It’s about enduring qualities that will accompany you into the next life, preparing you for the highest level of immortality. Most significantly, it’s about the “who” that will accompany you—and it’s about your character, wisdom, knowledge, and experiences.
- Admire individuals like Elon Musk, Novak Djokovic, Nelson Mandela, and Mother Teresa for their remarkable abilities to manifest some of the immortal qualities mentioned earlier. They provide glimpses of our potential as immortals, although they of course haven’t attained full immortality.
- Recognise those immortal qualities in yourself and others, then nurture them. These qualities are ingrained within us.
- Make an effort to understand the Leader and Architect of this grand plan. Remember, where there’s a design, there must be a Designer. As you begin to think with the eye of faith on an immortal level while in your limited mortal state, you’ll realise that it’s possible to build a personal relationship with an immortal being—often referred to as God. God has achieved the highest level of immortality, where the ultimate desire – and next level of personal progression – is to guide others along the same path. Most of us don’t get to know God because we fail to think immortally by perceiving through the eye of faith.
Hence, the pinnacle of leadership:
Leadership is synonymous with unending, eternal improvement and progression, which inevitably leads to immortal thinking. In other words, you cannot reach the highest level of immortality (realising your full potential) without also unleashing the leader within you. Leadership is about bringing out the best in all of us and our organisations, society, or the part you’re leading.
The most profound form of leadership is guiding yourself and others toward their highest level of improvement, which ultimately equates to immortality. Every individual you lead today will one day become immortal, and you will once again meet them…forever. Are you preparing yourself and them for that, and at what level?
I conclude with these leadership-related questions:
– Are you leading your people toward continual improvement, encouraging them to achieve the “impossible” by invoking their faith, not just their sight?
– Do you witness “miracles”—inexplicable events and accomplishments—occurring around you and among those you lead?
– Are you unlocking the full potential of each person within your sphere of leadership, fostering their authentic, ongoing personal and leadership development?
– Do you expect the best from every individual, not to enhance your image for investors or anyone else, but because it’s their destiny and yours?
– Are you leading for the right reasons—not the superficial, temporary reasons mentioned under point 12 above?
– Can you, on some level, sense the sacred role, even the calling, of leadership? It’s an honour, not an entitlement. Leadership doesn’t indicate your superiority or a means to attain wealth and importance. It’s another step on your journey toward the highest level of immortality. And it’s your destiny to guide others in the same direction. This includes enabling every person you lead to become a leader in their own right, no matter how “small” the opportunity may seem.
Welcome to the deepest level of thinking, the highest level of leadership—Immortal Leadership. Only a few leaders will be prepared for this. Are you?
